Isn't this image such a cliché now? But I've had it here since early
1996, so I think I'll keep it... Gee, perhaps someday soon it will be retro-chic!
Web server software testing
is always in progress, but please report
any problems or errors to webmaster@raw.com. Thanks!

What is it?
www.raw.com is the web server for
Reality And Wonder. It is a recently inherited
Dell Dimension 4800 P4 1.6GHz
with 256MB RAM running FreeBSD
5.3-RELEASE,
Apache 1.3.33 with
mod_perl 1.27
over
Perl 5.008005.
Dynamic content courtesy of
HTML::Mason 1.26.
The internet connection is via long-reach DSL through
OurConcord.Net.
Where is it?
The server is located in my home office in West Concord, MA, USA.
What's New?
- May 2005
Another year, another drive... Replaced rawiii (the PIII) with raw4 (another Dell, this time a P4). Updated to FreeBSD 5.3. I wonder if it is time for a RAID and a hot spare server?
- January 2004
Big meltdown of Mac drive (my own fault...) led to revitalization of old Dell PIII, this time running FreeBSD 5.2.
- 7 May 2003
Back to Apple's vanilla server, as my custom build broke with today's OS X 10.2.6 release and I don't have time to debug my build...
- 1 May 2003
Switch from HTML::Embperl to HTML::Mason (mostly as an exercise in learning Mason); updated HTML to conform to XHTML 1.0; back to running a custom-built Apache so I can use Perl 5.8 (c'mon Apple!).
- 30 August 2002
Updates: Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and its vanilla Apache+mod_perl (rather than my own build)
- 14 February 2002
Updates: Apache 1.3.23, mod_perl 1.26, move to Mac(!) OS X
- 13 March 2001
Updates: Apache 1.3.19, mod_perl 1.25
- 8 December 2000
Updated all pages to use CSS instead of <font> tags
- 12 October 2000
Ran all pages through W3C HTML 4.0 Validator
- 13 July 2000
Upgrades: mod_perl 1.24, Apache::ASP 1.95 (checking it out)
- 26 March 2000
Upgrades: Perl 5.6 (5.006), mod_perl 1.22
- 26 February 2000
Upgrade: Apache 1.3.12
- 9 February 2000
Upgrades: Apache 1.3.11, mod_perl 1.21, HTML::Embperl 1.2.1.
- 5 November 1999
Upgrade: Red Hat Linux 6.1.
- 20 August 1999
Removed last vestiges of FrontPage. Using Embperl::Execute()
to include header, navigation bar, and footer from external pages.
- 13 August 1999 (Friday the 13th! :-)
Finally re-built my own Apache binary, built in
mod_perl,
got HTML::Embperl
working, cleaned up some of the pages
- May 1999
Moved to Apache, but no time to work on configuration
- 22 February 1999
Files moved to temporary server while normal server is rebuilt (as a Linux
box!)
- 14 January 1999
After many, many hassles and a lot of down time, www.raw.com is finally
back on the net, now at a much greater bandwidth. (But there will be more to come:
I'm gonna re-build the server next...)
- 30 September 1998
Finally published the new site.
- 20 August 1998
Re-did the site using Microsoft FrontPage 98.
- 17 July 1998
Finally upgraded to WebSite Professional 2.3.
Digital ID? I guess I really haven't needed it or I would have gotten one by now...
- 23 September 1997
Upgraded to WebSite Professional 2.0. Still haven't yet gotten myself a Digital
ID...
- 1 August 1996
Upgraded to WebSite Professional. Haven't yet receieved a Digital ID, but once I do I will
activate security features.
- 26 February 1996
Almost a year to the day after officially starting business, Reality And Wonder is on the
net full-time. Yay!
